Biblical stewardship places every human authority under God’s authority. Government matters because justice matters. But government is neither the source of salvation nor the highest authority. God establishes rulers for the good of society and holds them accountable. The Christian question is not merely, “Who has power?” but, “Will power submit to God?”

Socialism reduces society to class conflict and political power. Radical individualism reduces society to personal preference. But Scripture gives us a better foundation: God rules over nations, people remain morally accountable, families and institutions matter, and no political system can redeem the human heart. A healthy society does not worship the state, the market, or the self. It recognizes that it answers to God.

The oppressor-versus-oppressed framework identifies real injustice, but it cannot explain the full biblical reality of sin. Scripture teaches that every person is accountable to God and unable to save themselves by effort or achievement. We are saved by grace alone through faith in Christ. Yet that same grace changes us, calling us to responsible, obedient, and fruitful lives.

Competing economic systems focus on who should control productive assets. Scripture moves first to God’s ownership and human stewardship. That calls business owners, workers, investors, and leaders to humility and justice. Our work should serve God’s purposes rather than merely our appetite for power or profit.

Markets are not moral authorities.
